Diagnostic description:
Translated from Kukenthal, 1915:
"Branching sparse, almost at right angles. The long internodes are hollow. The thick, 7 mm coarse polyps extend from all sides and at right angles and appear as a thick-walled goblets with retractable thin, distal parts. The calyx sclerites are partially protruding from the wall, to 0.3 mm long, thick, powerful thorny spindles. In the distal parts of polyps sclerites are more slender, to 0.7 mm long and are found in eight converging double series. The rind is thick and with about 0.4 mm measured irregular spindle-shape sclerites."
